A store featuring items from the U.S. Department of Defense may sound like the best place to purchase military camouflage clothing, but as more than 800 shoppers found out Saturday, it’s also a good place to buy deeply discounted merchandise.
The Defense Department has operated a surplus warehouse at 7501 SW 29th St. since 2009. Previously, all goods were purchased via online auctions. In September of this year, 20,000 square feet of the 500,000-square-foot building was designated as a walk-in store called Uncle Sam’s Retail Outlet. Saturday was the store’s first big sale.
