General Overview
The New York US Business Development Representative will manage an underserved state that has never had a dedicated sales representative. This is a ground floor opportunity with tremendous upside. Building on the current base of local and state government clients, the successful candidate will schedule live and video meetings with prospects and customers, create and deliver presentations, attend trade shows, and develop, solidify and close business through various methods of persistent, strategic contact. Ethical and professional sales techniques are critical to this position.
Responsibilities
- Support the agreed-upon mission ethically, enthusiastically and professionally as a key member of the GovDeals Business Development team
- Use existing knowledge of government-sector sales and/or the government procurement processes to successfully manage and grow the New York sales region
- Work independently to manage and grow a region with significant support from a sales manager and other functional support staff
- Support the Director - State Government and Higher Education on state level and higher education business when requested. Although direct sales responsibility for those markets are out of scope for this position, they are still important to growth of entire region
- Work closely and collaboratively with the assigned Inside Business Development representatives, Client Account Managers and Client Services team to maximize return from existing clients
- Create and deliver presentations in a variety of settings, for both small and large groups. This includes both live meetings and web-based presentations
- Develop new business through effective sales techniques and quickly and strategically follow up with all leads, whether self-developed or brought from a partner in the organization
- Manage the complete sales cycle, including the successful close of multiple sales opportunities
- Leverage the various support teams, technology, internal database, and CRM though timely and persistent engagement and use study, practice and engage in Challenger sales techniques to enhance the effectiveness and outcomes of sales opportunities
Qualifications
Education/ Experience:
- A four-year degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of demonstrated success in outside sales
Skills:
- Success in government-sector sales a plus
- Willingness to travel at least 2 nights away from home each week
- Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, MS Teams (including video calls) and Internet search skills
- CRM experience and committed usage is essential
- Diligent, hardworking, professional and motivated personal characteristics
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills
- Professional image and conduct, including a clear driving record
- Conference and trade show experience a plus
- Competitive streak, coupled with urgency to win business
- Organization of a territory business plan that maximizes efficiency and target opportunities
Ability:
- Work from a quiet home office setting, including access to high-speed internet and cell phone service
- Utilize a creative and approach to sales, including capacity to successfully overcome objections
- Must be independent, yet collaborative depending upon the situation
- Manage a complex schedule and be productive when working from both home office environment and remotely
- Must be able to network with industry leaders and leverage their expertise to help drive opportunity
- Challenge status quo where it is holding up opportunity
- Work efficiently while traveling, both from your vehicle and hotel
- Ability to cover a large state by car, often driving at night for optimal proximity to next day’s meetings
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and walk long distances in various climactic conditions and set up trade show booths
- Ability to have flexibility in work schedule, occasionally demanding work at night, after hours and on weekends, at times with little notice
