Historic Significance

This property was originally purchased by Bill Ellis. Mr. Ellis was an engineer and builder of race cars for many famous NASCAR drivers and opened his race shop on the property in 1965. On the property, he built race cars for drivers including Richard Brickhouse, Junior Johnson and Jim Paschal, including the winning car driven by Brickhouse in the inaugural Talladega 500. Also notable, Johnson, an inductee into the NASCAR Hall of Fame, was born in Wilkes County and is famously credited for discovering the drafting technique used by many race car drivers today. Nicknamed “The Last American Hero” Johnson won many races in 1966 and 1967 in cars built by Mr. Ellis on this property.

Mr. Ellis not only built cars for NASCAR drivers, but also raced himself. Driving for Paschal, Mr. Ellis won many races and earned a place in the North Carolina Drag Racing Hall of Fame, before retiring to dedicate his time to his race shop.

In 1974, Mr. Ellis and his son, Jeff, changed the business from the race shop to the truck center it serves as today.

“I have loved co-owning and operating this business with my dad over the last 40+ years and know that whoever buys this place will have a great business location for years to come,” Jeff Ellis tells us.
